Embracing Nostalgia - University FMP

This self-directed project explores the themes of childhood nostalgia, sexualisation, and infantilisation in the fashion industry, as well as the subversion of fashion norms. The work was spread over 2 semesters and 4 smaller breifs that collectively from my 3rd year Final Major Project.

I created 4 outfits, sketchbooks for each semester, tech files and packs for each garment, a project portfolio and was the creative director for my collection photoshoot.

This project explores dressing for yourself, subverting fashion norms and embracing the child inside of you. Why do we care about how people perceive us based on our clothes? Using bright and eye-catching fabrics, exploring silhouettes inspired by vintage children's sewing patterns, this project should take you back to when nothing mattered but what you love.

All fabrics used are natural fibres, including linens and cottons, adorned with decorative laces and buttons. To maintain a high finishing standard, all internal seams are bias-bound with contrasting binding, adding an extra pop of colour and pattern while upholding the high standard I always want to uphold in my practice.
