My Story

My main focus in my development as a designer is to explore a wide range of themes, styles and techniques in fashion, following my passions and collaborating with other creative professionals and clients to create clothing that expresses people's true style and self-expression.

I am a fashion maker specialising in construction and pattern cutting. In my time in a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and a BAHons Fashion Design, I have explored a wide range of techniques and themes, including dystopia, streetwear, formal wear and costume. I have a keen eye for detail and logic, and enjoy the problem-solving involved in pattern and clothing alterations. I have developed a range of digital skills using CAD software, such as Gerber, Adobe Suite, and Clo3D, that I utilise to improve the sustainability and efficiency of my projects.

My work is driven by my values of inclusivity, sustainability and using my practice to engage more people in fashion and sewing. I achieve sustainability through using second-hand  fabrics or natural fibres, and I have an interest in zero-waste pattern cutting, a skill I would love to develop further. When done right, sewing can be sustainable through alterations and creating sentimental clothing that holds more value than store bought clothing.

I am passionate about creating clothing that is fun, colourful, and subverts the fashion industry's norms around sexualisation and trend-chasing. I consider subverting clothing norms to be disregarding and challenging the typical trends, styles, and colours used in the fashion industry, escaping the fast-paced recycling of past fashions and chasing what influencers and the industry deem ‘in’. Drawing inspiration from the things you love and that bring you joy will help you create the most authentic version of yourself, and this is something I bring into my projects and practice. Another value I keep central to my practice is inclusivity through sizing. I want my patterns to include a wide range of sizes and proportions so that as many people as possible can enjoy my clothing.

Through my brand, Bull & Bobbin, I design to encourage younger generations to take up sewing by creating more youthful designs that focus on dopamine dressing, inclusive sizing, and alternative styles. My aim is to shift the audience away from middle-aged or older women, who are seen as the typical audience, and make the craft of sewing more appealing to today's youth. Sewing is not only a fun and useful hobby to take up, but also an essential life skill to develop, and creates a tight-knit community among its practitioners. I will also sell small runs of garments in standard sizes, along with a custom garment option for specific sizes or materials, all finished to a high standard with bound seams and made from natural fibres. My patterns will be priced competitively to be accessible to this younger audience, whilst the physical garments will be priced to reflect the fabrics, complexity of construction, and quality of finishes, making them accessible to people slightly older and in full-time careers.
